Virginia Buckley (1929-2020) was an eminent editor of children’s books who guided numerous titles to acclaim during a long and successful career. Buckley graduated summa cum laude from Wellesley College and earned an MA from Columbia University. She began her editorial career at Thomas Y. Crowell Publishers, where she worked for nearly ten years; she went on to work at Dutton for seventeen years, and at Clarion for thirteen more years before retiring in 2010. Over the course of her career, Buckley helped publish books by award-winning authors such as Katherine Paterson and Gary D. Schmidt.
