Thomas Gardner

Thomas Gardner is an Alumni Distinguished Professor of English at Virginia Tech University. He is the author of several books about poetry, including Regions of Unlikeness: Explaining Contemporary Poetry (1999), A Door Ajar: Contemporary Writers and Emily Dickinson (2006) and John in the Company of Poets: The Gospel in Literary Imagination (2011). He is also the author of the lyric essay collections Poverty Creek Journal (2014) and Sundays (2020). Gardner has won various awards in his academic career, including the Outstanding Faculty Award for the state of Virginia, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship in poetry.
