Paul Smith attended the 2008 Festival of Faith & Writing. There, he hosted the talk "Reading Contemporary Novelists" along with Renae Applegate House and Heather Walker Peterson. Smith presented his paper "Jesus Christ Crucified in Contemporary Native American Literature," which focused on the work of Diane Glancy.
