Lea Thau

Podcast

Lea Thau is a Peabody Award-winning producer and director. She pioneered the podcast Strangers in partnership with KCRW and is the show’s producer and host. The podcast, downloaded more than 10 million times, won the 2015 Public Radio March Madness Bracket Contest, beating out shows including This American Life, Serial, and Radiolab for the top honor. Slate named an episode of Strangers one of “The 25 Best Podcast Episodes Ever.”

Prior to launching Strangers, Thau was the executive and creative director of the live storytelling organization The Moth, out of which she created The Moth Podcast and The Moth Radio Hour.

Thau works, too, as a storytelling teacher and coach. She has trained Hollywood actors, Harvard’s Nieman Fellows, and Fortune 500 executives, as well as inner city kids in New York and Los Angeles.

Originally from Denmark, Thau first came to the United States as a visiting scholar at Columbia University in New York City. She currently lives in Los Angeles with her son.
