John Hendrix

Children, Illustration

John Hendrix writes and illustrates children’s books and also creates artwork for book jackets, advertising campaigns, and serial publications. Hendrix’s solo children’s books include John Brown: His Fight for Freedom, Miracle Man: The Story of Jesus, and Shooting at the Stars, and he is also the artist behind Deborah Hopkinson’s Abe Lincoln Crosses a Creek and A Boy Called Dickens. He has also done illustration for the New Yorker, Sports Illustrated, New York Times, Rolling Stone, Time, and Entertainment Weekly.

In 2009, Hendrix’s artwork won the Society of Illustrators 3x3 Gold Medal in sequential illustration. In addition, he earned the SILA Silver Best of Show Award, and his work has been featured in annual award publications such as American Illustration, Society for Publication Design, and the AIGA 50 Books | 50 Covers Show. In 2012, Hendrix was elected president of ICON7, The Illustration Conference.
