Gary D. Schmidt

Gary D. Schmidt is a professor of English at Calvin University. He has written over 30 books, most of them for children and young adults. His awards include a Newbery Honor and a Printz Honor for Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy (2005); and a Newbery Honor for The Wednesday Wars (2007). Okay for Now (2011) was a National Book Award Finalist. Schmidt's picture book biography of Sojourner Truth, So Tall Within (2018), won numerous accolades including the Chicago Public Library Best of the Best Informational Books for Young Readers and the ALSC Notable Children's Books for Middle Readers. His young adult book, Pay Attention, Carter Jones (2019) received starred reviews from Kirkus, Booklist, Horn Book, Publishers Weekly, and School Library Journal
