Garret Keizer is an essayist, poet, and contributing editor for Harper’s Magazine and Virginia Quarterly Review. He is the author of nine books, including the nonfiction works The Unwanted Sound of Everything We Want (2010), Privacy (2012), and Getting Schooled (2014), and the poetry collection The World Pushes Back (2018), which won the X. J. Kennedy Poetry Prize. Keizer's essays, poems, and opinion pieces have appeared in The Antioch Review, Lapham’s Quarterly, The Los Angeles Times, and Mother Jones, among others. He was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2006.
