Donna Jo Napoli has written numerous books for children and young adults. Her books range from historical fiction (Daughter of Venice, The King of Mulberry Street) to mythology (The Great God Pan) to mathematics or science tales, retellings of fairy tales (Beast, Zel, The Magic Circle), and aids for Deaf people learning to read. Napoli has received dozens of awards for her writing, including the Golden Kite Award, the Sydney Taylor Award, the Carolyn W. Field Honor Book Award, and the Parents’ Choice Gold and Silver Awards. Napoli is also a prominent linguist and has taught at universities around the globe; she currently teaches linguistics and social justice at Swarthmore College.
