Ashley Bryan

Ashley F. Bryan was a beloved author and illustrator of more than 50 books for children. His work won numerous honors, including the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award and the Coretta Scott King—Virginia Hamilton Lifetime Achievement Award. He was named a Newbery Honoree for his picture book, Freedom Over Me (2016). His other books include Sail AwayBeautiful BlackbirdBeat the Story-Drum, Pum PumLet It ShineAshley Bryan’s ABC of African American Poetry; and All Night, All Day: A Child's First Book of African-American Spirituals. His illustrated memoir titled Infinite Hope was published in 2019. Bryan lived in Islesford, one of the Cranberry Isles, off the coast of Acadia National Park in Maine.
