Stephen Bloom
Journalism
Stephen G. Bloom is a Professor of Journalism at the University of Iowa (Iowa City), where he teaches magazine reporting and writing, and media ethics in a digital age. His current work focuses on long-form nonfiction, oral history, and online narrative journalism. Bloom was named the 2020 recipient of the Distinguished Teaching in Journalism Award by the Society of Professional Journalists. He is also the author of Postville: A Clash of Cultures in Heartland America (2000), Inside the Writer's Mind: Writing Narrative Journalism (2002), Tears of Mermaids: The Secret Story of Pearls (2009), and The Audacity of Inez Burns: Dreams, Desire, Treachery & Ruin in the City of Gold (2018).
