Shirley Hershey Showalter—a former professor of English, the first woman president of Goshen College, and an executive at the Fetzer Institute—is now a full-time writer. Her memoir Blush: A Mennonite Girl Meets a Glittering World was named a Best Spiritual Book of 2013 by Spirituality & Practice. Her essays have been published in The Christian Century, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Minneapolis Star Tribune, Next Avenue, and Forbes.com. Showalter was the Kilian McDonnell Fellow at the Collegeville Institute during the fall semester 2016.
