Kathryn Erskine writes young adult fiction and children's books. Her novel Mockingbird (2010) won the National Book Award, and her novel Seeing Red (2013) was a Jane Addams Children’s Book Award honor book. Her other novels include The Absolute Value of Mike (2012), The Badger Knight (2014), and The Incredible Magic of Being (2017). Her award-winning picture book, Mama Africa! How Miriam Makeba Spread Hope with Her Song (2017), illustrated by Charly Palmer, is a biography of South African singer and activist Miriam Makeba.
