Afaa M. Weaver

Afaa Weaver is an award-winning poet whose poetry collections include Spirit Boxing (2017), City of Eternal Spring (2014), and The Government of Nature (2013), for which he received the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award. Weaver also writes short stories; his fiction has been published in anthologies such as Children of the Night: The Best Short Stories by Black Writers, 1967 to the Present. Weaver has been honored with Pushcart prizes, a Pew Fellowship, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and a Fulbright Scholar appointment to Taiwan, where he taught at the National Taiwan University and Taipei National University of the Arts. A student of Chinese culture and language, Weaver received the Gold Friendship Medal from the Beijing Writers Association in 2005 for his work with Chinese poets. Weaver is a member of the core faculty in the Drew MFA program in Poetry and Poetry in Translation.
