Leila Aboulela is a novelist and short story writer. Her novels include Bird Summons (2020), The Kindness of Enemies (2016), Lyrics Alley (2010), which was the Fiction Winner of the Scottish Book Awards, The Translator (2006), and Minaret (2005). Aboulela was the first winner of the Caine Prize for African Writing for a story in her collection Coloured Lights (2001), and her recent story collection, Elsewhere, Home (2019), won the Saltire Fiction Book of the Year Award.  Her work has been longlisted for the Orange Prize three times, and has been translated into fifteen languages.
