Joan Bauer is a New York Times bestselling author, screenwriter, songwriter, and speaker. Bauer has won numerous awards for her fourteen novels for young readers, and her novel Rules of the Road was chosen as one of the top young adult books of the quarter century by the American Library Association. Other awards and prizes include: Delacorte Prize for First Young Adult Novel, 1992, for Squashed; Top Ten Best Books for Young Adults selection, American Library Association, 1999, for Rules of the Road; Newbery Honor Medal; Los Angeles Times Book Prize; Golden Kite Award, Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators; and the Michigan Thumbs-Up!
