Daniel José Camacho


Daniel José Camacho is a writer and editor currently working on a book about Bartolomé de las Casas with Avid Reader Press. He won a Robert B. Silvers Foundation Grant for his essay “Saint Augustine’s Slave Play”, which became one of the top-ten web pieces in 2022 at The Point.

Daniel’s writing has appeared in publications such as the Guardian, Sojourners, The Revealer, America Magazine, Christian Century, ABC Religion & Ethics, the Washington Post, and in the essay collection The God Beat: What Journalism Says about Faith and Why It Matters. He has previously worked as an editor at Sojourners, Religion & Politics, and Fortress Press.

The son of immigrant parents from Barranquilla, Colombia, Daniel was born and raised in Uniondale, New York, and has a B.A. in philosophy from Calvin University and a Master of Divinity from Duke University Divinity School. He now lives in Houston with his wife and son.
