Dana VanderLugt, a speaker at the 2026 Festival of Faith and Writing

Dana VanderLugt

Dana VanderLugt is a writer and educator who descends from a family of Michigan apple growers and storytellers. Her debut novel, Enemies in the Orchard: A World War II Novel in Verse, is inspired by stories of German POWs who worked on her grandfather’s orchard in the 1940s.

Her writing has appeared in Longridge Review, Relief: A Journal of Art & Faith, the Michigan Reading Journal, and the Reformed Journal, where she is a frequent contributor to the daily blog. She holds an MFA from the Naslund-Mann Graduate School of Writing at Spalding University.

A former English teacher, Dana now works as a literacy consultant in Michigan, where she lives with her husband, sons, and a spoiled golden retriever. And yes, she makes a mean apple pie.
